A Helping Hand
The Colbert ReportMon - Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c
Since I don't watch conservative talk shows, I had no idea that the pundits are turning to Ayn Rand's novel, "Atlas Shrugged", for guidance. Evidently, they believe that President Obama is "punishing achievement" by taxing the wealthy. Why is it all about money? Why can't this be about helping your fellow man or woman?

The Mundane
I haven't had a lot of excitement going on in my life, which is pretty nice. So, I thought it would be good to use this time to do a little household organization. Last Saturday, I rearranged some of my bedroom furniture. I used to have my dresser at the foot of my bed and there wasn't a lot of room in between the two pieces. As a result, I hated putting away my clothes in the dresser drawers. I moved the dresser to the other side of the room and created a walkway at the foot of the bed. It's great! I wonder why it took me so long to figure it out. So, I'll let you know in a couple weeks if I keep up with putting away my clothes, now that I can open the drawers. :-)
Last night, I re-organized my walk-in closet. I bought clear plastic shoeboxes and I went through all of my shoes, which is a lot. I'll post a picture later, if I remember. As a result of digging through my piles of shoes, I re-discovered four pairs of shoes. Now I have something "new" and comfortable to wear to work. I've been searching for a new comfy, yet stylish pair of work shoes. I've looked everywhere, except for my own closet. So, the moral of this story is to organize your house (and your life) and you'll find a lot of lost treasure.

Da Colbert Code - Oscar Predictions and Winners
Stephen Colbert has truly amazing deductive powers. He made these predictions on his February 12th show. The second clip reveals the full strength of Stephen's mental powers. :-)

The Inauguration - impressions of the day
It's been 11 days since the inauguration of Barack Obama as our 44th president. I was there. After I came back from the trip, I thought about doing a play-by-play of the day. Now that I've had time to think about it, I'll just give my impressions of the day.
--COLD: I will never complain about being cold ever again. Standing in 15 degree weather for over six hours can really change your perspective.
--JOY: Despite the long lines and sometimes scary crowd situations, everyone was happy. No one was fighting and thank God no one was arrested. I was there for five days and I never encountered a disgruntled person. It was truly amazing that one man could inspire so many people with good will and happiness. I hope that we can keep the momentum on the euphoria.
--GRATITUDE: I'm very grateful to my friend Laura who put me on a list some time in November or December to get tickets to the swearing-in ceremony. I'm also grateful that she offered to let me buy her two inauguration ball tickets from her. She only slightly groused when I traded them for four other ball tickets. My friends Ray and Shannon also get a big high-five for graciously hosting me at their lovely townhouse in McLean, Virginia. It was like staying in a hotel. I had my own bathroom and toiletries under the sink. =)

At the airport
I'm waiting at the airport to board a flight to Philadelphia. I found out that I'm not the only one who had the bright idea to fly there and travel south to Washington, D.C. I'll post more later.

NPR Music
I have another reason to love NPR. Their music website is fantastic. I highly recommend their "Exclusive First Listen" feature. Check out Andrew Bird's new album, "Noble Beast".
