NPH on the Tony's
I watched the Tony's on Sunday night and I meant to post this video earlier. This is Neil Patrick Harris' Tony wrap up at the end of the broadcast.
Operation Iraqi Stephen
Last night was the first installment of Stephen Colbert's "Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando" and it was a riot. Colbert's real comedic talent is criticizing the Iraqi War and still be sincerely in support of the troops. One of my peeves is that when people automatically assume that you don't support the military troops if you are critical of the war and why we are there.

Tyranny or Democracy?
Yesterday, one of my co-workers asked me if I was going to a tea party on April 15. Of course, he said this over the cube panel and not to my face. If he did, he would have seen the look of astonishment on my face. I shouldn't have been surprised. He's a Republican, like the half of our staff - there are only eight of us. Although, I'm not 100% sure if we actually have a fourth liberal in our midst. Anyway, my tea-throwing co-worker has never been a fan of Barack Obama and usually insists on trying to drag me into a political discussion. I refuse to succumb to his challenges. I'm a firm believer that politics should not be a dominant part of the workplace. It's a touchy subject, just like religion. Most people are passionate about both subjects, so I really really try to avoid them. I admit that I have talked about religion at work. No one is perfect.
So, back to the question at hand: tyranny or democracy? I really think that Jon Stewart expresses it best in the following clip. Do we really live in a society where if you degree with the person in power that you go the the extreme of calling him/her a creating a Fascist world or for being tyrannical? That's how I see the talking heads on Fox News - extremists. The part that scares me is that people watch that drivel and believe it and feed on the rage and unpleasantness.

A Helping Hand
The Colbert ReportMon - Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c
Since I don't watch conservative talk shows, I had no idea that the pundits are turning to Ayn Rand's novel, "Atlas Shrugged", for guidance. Evidently, they believe that President Obama is "punishing achievement" by taxing the wealthy. Why is it all about money? Why can't this be about helping your fellow man or woman?

The Mundane
I haven't had a lot of excitement going on in my life, which is pretty nice. So, I thought it would be good to use this time to do a little household organization. Last Saturday, I rearranged some of my bedroom furniture. I used to have my dresser at the foot of my bed and there wasn't a lot of room in between the two pieces. As a result, I hated putting away my clothes in the dresser drawers. I moved the dresser to the other side of the room and created a walkway at the foot of the bed. It's great! I wonder why it took me so long to figure it out. So, I'll let you know in a couple weeks if I keep up with putting away my clothes, now that I can open the drawers. :-)
Last night, I re-organized my walk-in closet. I bought clear plastic shoeboxes and I went through all of my shoes, which is a lot. I'll post a picture later, if I remember. As a result of digging through my piles of shoes, I re-discovered four pairs of shoes. Now I have something "new" and comfortable to wear to work. I've been searching for a new comfy, yet stylish pair of work shoes. I've looked everywhere, except for my own closet. So, the moral of this story is to organize your house (and your life) and you'll find a lot of lost treasure.

Da Colbert Code - Oscar Predictions and Winners
Stephen Colbert has truly amazing deductive powers. He made these predictions on his February 12th show. The second clip reveals the full strength of Stephen's mental powers. :-)

The Inauguration - impressions of the day
It's been 11 days since the inauguration of Barack Obama as our 44th president. I was there. After I came back from the trip, I thought about doing a play-by-play of the day. Now that I've had time to think about it, I'll just give my impressions of the day.
--COLD: I will never complain about being cold ever again. Standing in 15 degree weather for over six hours can really change your perspective.
--JOY: Despite the long lines and sometimes scary crowd situations, everyone was happy. No one was fighting and thank God no one was arrested. I was there for five days and I never encountered a disgruntled person. It was truly amazing that one man could inspire so many people with good will and happiness. I hope that we can keep the momentum on the euphoria.
--GRATITUDE: I'm very grateful to my friend Laura who put me on a list some time in November or December to get tickets to the swearing-in ceremony. I'm also grateful that she offered to let me buy her two inauguration ball tickets from her. She only slightly groused when I traded them for four other ball tickets. My friends Ray and Shannon also get a big high-five for graciously hosting me at their lovely townhouse in McLean, Virginia. It was like staying in a hotel. I had my own bathroom and toiletries under the sink. =)
